Laundry List of Facts

Today it seems that a lot of importance is placed on laundry, laundry rooms and laundry products. With clothes care becoming such a timely ritual in many American homes, it's no surprise that consumers are looking for added style and convenience in both their products and their laundry rooms. Here are some interesting laundry facts: 

Time spent on laundry

  • The average American family does 8–10 loads of laundry each week (AHAM).
  • A single load of laundry, from wash to dry, takes an average of one hour and twenty seven minutes to complete (AHAM).
Laundry moving to more prominent areas of the home

  • According to the Stevenson Company, in 1992, only 17 percent of homes had a separate laundry room. In 2006, nearly 57 percent of homes have a separate laundry room; and only 15 percent of consumers have laundry in the basement (GE).
  • 61 percent of new laundry rooms are being built on upper floors, according to LuxuryRealEstate.com.
  • 3.5 percent of consumers have their laundry pair in the kitchen (GE).
BIG laundry rooms
  • The average size laundry room for people with incomes over $100,000 is 82 square feet. The average sizes laundry room, considering all income levels, is 47 square feet (GE).
