GE Responds to Changing Economic Needs with Refrigeration that Simplifies and Refines Meal Preparation

LOUISVILLE, Ky.  (NYSE: GE)  New economic realities are leading more people to cook at home, both for family meals and special occasions. Market research firm Information Resources reports more than 60 percent of consumers are visiting restaurants less often than they did just a few months before.

To meet these changing needs, GE is enhancing its refrigeration line to offer the capacity and food preservation tools needed to make meal planning more economical and convenient. Several attractive, affordable stainless steel models will be available in spring and summer 2009, including:

GE® 29-cu.-ft. side-by-side refrigerator
The largest free-standing refrigerator in America*, the new side-by-side, stainless steel system provides unmatched capacity for fresh and frozen foods, with 18 cu. ft. of storage for healthy fruits, vegetables and dairy and an 11.1-cu.-ft. freezer section. Spacious GallonPLUS door bins hold two gallons of milk or six 2-liter soda bottles.

GE’s new ClimateGuard™ temperature management system features a space-saving air tower along the back wall, sensors that continually monitor temperature and electronic controls for independent setting of the fresh and frozen food compartments. The TurboCool™ feature maintains proper interior temperature even if the door is frequently opened. Contoured doors have real stainless steel handles and there is an integrated water and ice dispenser. GSHS9NGYSS will be available in May with an $1899 MSRP**.

GE side-by-side refrigerator with LED lighting
Designed to preserve fresh food longer and protect frozen items, the ClimateGuard temperature management system helps extend time between trips to the grocery. It’s available in this GE 26-cu.-ft, stainless steel refrigerator that features long-lasting LED lighting designed to last up to four times longer than traditional bulbs.

Another timesaver is the UltraFlow100 trimless water dispenser, the fastest filling water dispenser based on ratings for NSF-certified refrigerator filters, with a QuickIce™ feature that makes ice up to 50 percent faster than a normal setting. Contoured crown doors have hidden hinges and real stainless steel handles. The ENERGY STAR®-qualified refrigerator will be available in May with a $1,799 MSRP**.

GE Profile™ 29-cu.-ft. bottom-freezer
Larger than ever, this convenient bottom-freezer model now features an impressive 28.5-cu.-ft. capacity with 19.7 cu. ft. of fresh food storage for produce, cheeses, meats and seafood. The advanced ClimateKeeper™ food preservation system has two evaporators that maintain separate climates  moist and cool in the fresh-food compartment, dry and cold in the freezer  to keep food at its peak. The 8.8-cu.-ft. freezer stores plenty of frozen meals or cook-once-eat-twice casseroles.

An innovative media center with a seven-inch LCD screen above the water and ice dispenser displays nutritional information, recipe substitutions, and even family photos. ENERGY STAR-qualified models, PFSS9PKYSS and PFSS9PSKYSS will be available in July at $3,099 and $3,299 MSRP**.
